Nephrologists provide treatment for an array of kidney-related ailments, including but not limited to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This progressive condition leads to gradual decreases in kidney function due to diabetes, hypertension or other causes; treatment typically includes diet modifications and drug therapy to maintain part of the kidneys.

• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI): Sudden and temporary kidney dysfunction caused by dehydration, infections or medications.
• Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD): Polycystic Kidney Disease is an inherited disorder marked by cyst formation on kidneys that can eventually lead to their damage and necessitate transplant.
• Glomerulonephritis: Glomerulus-related kidney inflammation caused by infection, autoimmunity or any other causes can result in inflammation that leads to disease of kidney filtering units, resulting in inflammation that inflames them and ultimately requires surgery for correction.

• Nephrotic Syndrome: Symptoms of kidney damage include proteinuria (excess protein in urine) and edema (swelling).
• End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD): End-stage kidney Disease is the final phase of kidney disease and often necessitates dialysis or transplant surgery as treatment options to ensure survival.

Nephrologists work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, dietitians and social workers to provide comprehensive care to those diagnosed with kidney diseases, furthermore, when issues related to other conditions – like heart disease or diabetes – arise that require treatment as well.
